When choosing the correct track radius size, it is important to measure your headroom properly or by measuring your existing track. Standard 12" radius track requires 12" of available headroom. Likewise, 15" radius track requires a minimum of 15" of available headroom. Lowhead room track is used when you have less than 12" of headroom. If you are planning on mounting a trolley garage door opener above your garage door, the manufacture requires at least 3" of available headroom above your torsion spring system. Therefore, if you have only 15" of headroom available, you'd want to go with 12" radius track.
Follow the diagram above to find the radius of your existing track. Simply place a level or straight edge horizontally (Line "A") at the meeting point of the horizontal and vertical tracks. Next take your measurement from Line "A" up to the bottom of the horizontal track where the curve ends. The Pink Arrow represents the area you need to measure. The result of your measurement is the track radius. Therefore, if your tape measure reads 12" then your track has a 12" Radius turn.
If you have any questions regarding which track radius to choose for your application, give us a call and we'll assist you.
We do not recommend measuring your existing door due to possible previous errors. Always measure the opening for accurate measurements.
